As a successful business owner and the child of a Habitat homeowner, we are so grateful for the insight our former Board Chair, Tiya Williams, provided to our organization. Tiya served on the Richmond Metropolitan Habitat for Humanity Board for seven years. She is the Owner/Founder of Arshon Consulting, LLC and a Real Estate Agent. Learn more about her involvement with Richmond Habitat.
Why did you choose to join the Habitat Board?
I was asked to join as a child of a Habitat Homeowner and to give back since Habitat did so much for my family.
What is unique about being a part of Habitat?
Habitat helps to level the playing field in establishing generational wealth in communities that largely were cut out of the opportunity due to widespread historic racism and discrimination, which unfortunately still happens today. I can see a direct impact of our efforts through my own experience and in meeting with families, as well as serving on Homeowner Services Committee.
Which Habitat value resonates most with you the most and why?
Equity. Everyone deserves safe and affordable housing regardless of their background, race, ethnicity, religious beliefs, sexual orientation, economic status, etc.
