Dreams Coming True
This month has been an exciting one, we’ve had five home dedications in five weeks, and were able to end with Sam’s home dedication today! Sam was about to give up on his dream of becoming a homeowner. He hadn’t had luck qualifying for a mortgage through local lenders and became discouraged. Then, his friend encouraged him to take one more shot and apply for Habitat for Humanity’s Affordable Homeownership Program. He took a chance, applied, and received the letter he had hoped for…he was approved.
Sam is the father to two sons and cannot wait to provide them with a safe, secure, and affordable home. The three of them enjoy playing video games together, but most of all, LOVE to play football! Sam even prides himself on being their “dad cheerleader,” always supporting them from the sidelines.
Through Richmond Habitat’s homeownership program, Sam will purchase a safe, healthy home and pay an affordable, zero percent interest mortgage, making his dream of homeownership a reality. Currently, he is completing 10 financial and homeownership education classes and attending monthly one-on-one budgeting sessions to make sure he has the tools she needs to be a successful homeowner. He is also working to complete 350 hours of “sweat equity,” or volunteer time, helping to build homes and working at our ReStore.
“Owning our first home will mean the world to me and my family in so many ways. We dream of seeing each other grow old and never having to move from our home in order to find more affordable rents. We are so close and our future is being created in front of our eyes.” – Sam, future homeowner
