Veterans Day 2021
Did you know that 15% of Richmond Habitat homeowners previously served in the military or the reserves?
Donyna Boyd enlisted in the United States Army at the young age of 17 and became an Ammunition Specialist, later earning several medals in recognition for her service. Next month we’ll begin construction on a home for the Boyd family in the Chestnut Hills neighborhood.
Today, Donyna is now a mother to four young children and a member of the Army Reserves. She is ready for stability and to find an affordable home to raise her family. Currently, Donyna lives in one of the local public housing developments and looks forward to finally having a space of her own.
Your support, by volunteering on this build or by making a financial gift, will have a direct impact on this veteran family and on our community as a whole.
Through Richmond Habitat’s homeownership program, Donyna will purchase a safe, healthy home and pay an affordable mortgage, making her dream of homeownership a reality. Currently, she is completing 10 financial and homeownership education classes and attending monthly one-on-one budgeting sessions to make sure she has the tools she needs to be a successful homeowner. She is also working to complete 350 hours of “sweat equity”, or volunteer time, helping to build homes and working at our ReStore.
