Buildable Hours Competition

Join our Buildable Hours Competition!

Habitat for Humanity’s Buildable Hours Competition is an event where local law firms can sign up to compete against each other! We’ll see which firm can volunteer and fundraise the most from July 14th to 26th to benefit Richmond Metropolitan Habitat for Humanity.

Your firm’s participation and donations will help further our mission and address the housing crisis facing our community. Registration for Buildable Hours is open now for firms to participate in this exciting competition.

Build days are Thursday through Saturday from 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM, and ReStore shifts are Monday through Saturday from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM and 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM. All tools and supervision are provided by Habitat. Points will be awarded to each firm based on the number of hours volunteered and dollars raised. Upon conclusion of the competition on the 26th, winners from categories based on firm size will be announced.

We are excited for participants to get into the giving and competitive spirit of the event! All volunteer hours and proceeds will go toward supporting the construction of an affordable home for a deserving family or individual in our community!

Q&A

How Do I Participate in Buildable Hours?

Law firms participate by either signing up to volunteer at build sites, at our local ReStore locations, or by donating to Richmond Metropolitan Habitat for Humanity.

How Long Does the Competition Last?

Buildable Hours will run from July 14 to July 26.

How Does the Competition Work?

Law firms that participate will score points based on the cash value of their donations and volunteer hours. Each dollar donated is one point, and volunteer hours are valued at $33.49 per hour served in our area, so each hour will earn your firm 35 points.

Once the competition concludes on July 26, the points earned from each firm’s efforts will be totaled and a winner will be decided for small, medium, and large firms. Firm size is based on the number of staff members. Small firms being fewer than 15, medium firms are those with 16–59, and large firms with more than 60.

How will volunteering work?

Build sites will be open for volunteers Thursday through Saturday from 8AM to 3PM. All the equipment and safety gear you need for the day is provided and no previous experience is necessary. Orientations take place at the start of the shift.

ReStore volunteer slots are open from Monday through Saturday. The shifts are half days with the first running from 10AM to 2PM and the second running from 1PM to 5PM. Volunteers will assist the staff with receiving, pricing, and processing donations.

Volunteers must wear close-toed shoes and clothing they find comfortable and will not mind getting dirty.

Why Should I Participate?

The lack of affordable and safe housing remains a critical problem in our local communities, and this problem affects low-income families most acutely. With the help of donations, volunteers, proceeds from our ReStore, and hard work from our home buyers, we can make the dream of homeownership possible for hundreds of deserving residents in the Richmond metropolitan area.

In addition, volunteering at a build site and the ReStores is a great way to spend time with your team out of the office and give back to the community!
