Habitat on the Hill 2021 Recap!
In February we participated in Habitat for Humanity, International’s Virtual Habitat on the Hill conference! As part of this conference, we learned about Habitat’s top federal legislative priorities for this session and had the opportunity to speak with our federal legislators to advocate on behalf of these priorities.
We focused on three main asks:
- Invest in mortgage assistance for low-income homeowners at risk of foreclosure due to the pandemic in any future recovery package
- Support the Neighborhood Homes Investment Act
- Increase funding for vital federal funding programs for housing in the FY22 budget – (SHOP, HOME, & USDA 502 Loans)
We were able to meet with staff members from Senator Warner and Senator Kaine’s offices, and were able to meet directly with Representative Spanberger. All of our legislators and their staff were super supportive and agreed to look to us for advice on housing issues in the future.
Interested in advocating for these issues?
You can send an email directly to your legislators about these priorities, here! Also, here are some social media template you can use to amplify our message!
If you have any questions about the legislative asks listed above, or are interested in attending Habitat on the Hill next year, please reach out to Kristin at kvinagro@richmondhabitat.org.
