Richmond Metropolitan Habitat for Humanity has the opportunity to connect and collaborate with many other incredible nonprofits in the community. As part of our Nonprofit Spotlight, we want to highlight some of those organizations that help serve Habitat homeowners and those in a similar demographic.
We recently toured St. Andrew’s School (SAS), a tuition-free school focused on the whole child. What started out as a neighborhood school serving the working families of Oregon Hill has evolved into an independent independent, K-5 elementary school. Most families attending SAS live in the greater Richmond area and are at or below 200% of the federal poverty level. SAS is unique in that all students receive a full scholarship to attend. SAS’ whole child programming is made up of six fundamentals: academics, social and emotional learning (SEL), visual and performing arts, wellness and nutrition, family engagement, and graduate support.
Both Richmond Habitat and St. Andrew’s School had the unique opportunity to serve the same family with our programs! The Halsey’s previously had their children enrolled at SAS and purchased their Habitat house in 2021.
To date, hundreds of students have gone through the SAS’ whole child programming, and many graduates have gone on to attend independent middle schools. There are many ways you can support St. Andrew’s, learn more by visiting their website: https://st-andrews-school.org/
