Achieving Goals

On Tuesday, July 13th we got to celebrate Nicole and her hard work and dedication towards becoming a homeowner! Nicole and her two children will be purchasing a newly rehabbed home in the Randolph neighborhood. This is one of the 26 homes we have rehabbed in the a and Randolph neighborhoods over the past few years in partnership with the Richmond Redevelopment and Housing Authority.

Nicole knows what it takes to achieve her goals. Her proudest accomplishment is going back to school to get her GED, and then continuing on to college. Now, as a Patient Access Representative with VCU Health Systems, Nicole finally feels ready to achieve her dream of homeownership.

A single-mother of two children, Nicole wants to show her children that anything is possible if you work hard.

Currently, the Smith’s live in a small apartment where they constantly hear noise from their surrounding neighbors.  Nicole grew up in public housing and is excited to finally experience the serenity of having a quiet home she can call her own.

In order to prepare for her new role as a homeowner, Nicole completed ten educational classes offered through our Homeowner Services Department and 350 “sweat equity” hours, volunteering to build her home and supporting other Habitat projects. Shortly, she will purchase her home and pay an affordable, 0% interest mortgage, making her dream of homeownership a reality.

Now that Nicole is working from home, she plans to turn her sunroom into her office space because she loves bright, natural light.

Nicole also shared with us this beautiful sentiment, “I just really want to say thank you for this opportunity and thank you so much for helping me complete another one of my goals in life. This will show my children that anything is possible – just work hard and your dreams will come true!”
