Feeling Safe and Secure

Feeling Safe and Secure

Barbara knows the importance of feeling safe and secure with where you live. Growing up, she and her family fled her home country of Sierra Leone in West Africa to escape war, ending up in the Richmond area.
.
While in Africa, Barbara trained to become a nurse and was able to transfer some of her classes towards becoming CNA certified once she moved to the United States.
.

Barbara is the mother of three children – two of which live with her (one child is now an adult and lives on their own). Currently they live in a substandard apartment with many health and safety issues where maintenance is very slow to make any repairs.

.When Barbara first applied to Habitat’s program, she was not quite ready to take the leap into homeownership. She instead joined our Prep Phase Program, worked on her budget and credit, and finally had the tools she needed to become a homeowner.

.Today we held a dedication ceremony to celebrate the completion of her home! In a few short weeks, she’ll close on her home and officially become a homeowner. Congratulations to Barbara and her family – we are so excited for you!
