Chenise and her daughter created a vision board together displaying their hopes and dreams for the future. One of the dreams at the center of that vision board was to one day own a home with a bright yellow front door. A few years later, Chenise and her daughter purchased this adorable home in the Blackwell neighborhood. Richmond Habitat was thrilled to help them make that dream come true.
Chenise found out about Richmond Habitat’s Affordable Homeownership Program when she volunteered on one of the home build sites with her work. She took a chance, applied, and was accepted.
To prepare for her new role as a homeowner, Chenise completed her 350 hours of “sweat equity” and 10 financial and homeownership education classes. She purchased her home and pays an affordable mortgage, making her dream of homeownership (and vision of walking through that bright yellow front door) a reality.
Before entering our homeownership program, we asked Chenise what being a homeowner would mean to her...
“Owning my own home will honestly mean the world to me. I will feel like I have the opportunity to show my daughter that she can do something big and anything that she can put her mind to. To be able to say that I will be a homeowner is such a blessing for me and my daughter.”
