How You Can Help Your Community
We help as many families as we can, but the lack of affordable, safe housing remains a critical problem in our area. Your monetary donations and gifts in kind of goods and services enable us to continue our mission of breaking the cycle of poverty by providing affordable homes. At the Richmond Metropolitan Habitat for Humanity, there are several ways you can donate to help your community.
Sponsor a Build!
One of the most impactful ways a company, place of worship, or civic group can get involved with Habitat is to help sponsor a build! Sponsoring a build not only helps Habitat, but secures each group opportunities to build on site. For more information on how to sponsor a build, contact Jennifer O’Rourke at jorourke@richmondhabitat.org or 804-232-7001 ext. 110.
Matching Gifts
Many employers will match tax-deductible charitable donations made by their employees, retirees and employees’ spouses. Some companies even provide matching funds to support employee volunteer hours. To find out if your company has a matching gift program, please look them up in the search bar on our Employer Matching Gift page.
Donate Materials or Labor to Help Us Build
The cost of building materials is always our biggest expense! Help us cut our costs by donating new building materials, appliances, and more! For more information on donating in-kind construction materials or labor, contact Christina Hall at chall@richmondhabitat.org or 804-232-7001.
Donate Gently Used Items to Our ReStores
Our ReStores are one of our biggest sources of revenue. Proceeds from the ReStores help us cover our overhead expenses so that every donation can go directly towards building homes. To learn more about donating your gently used furniture, home decor, appliances, and building materials, visit our ReStore donation page.
Cause Marketing Partnerships
Many brands and businesses raise money for nonprofits by holding special sales or product promotions and then donating a portion of the proceeds to the organization. We are open to discussing these potential partnership opportunities. Opportunities must be mutually beneficial to both parties and must align with our values. For more information, contact Jennifer O’Rourke at jorourke@richmondhabitat.org or 804-232-7001 ext. 110.

Donate Products and Services
Also known as gift-in-kind donations, Richmond Habitat is grateful for any donated products, materials, and services like building materials, furniture, appliances, labor, and more.
One of our most valued donations is the materials used to build homes. Habitat for Humanity regularly ranks as one of the top 20 homebuilders in the United States and is the largest privately held homebuilder. For example, in each one of the homes we build in the U.S., we require approximately 150 pounds of nails and 400 two-by-fours. With the average Habitat house consisting of 1,200 square feet and three bedrooms, these numbers add up fast—so donations of building materials from corporate manufacturers are welcome!
Additionally, we welcome retailers with overstock items to donate those goods. Donations like these are sold in our Habitat ReStores, with the proceeds furthering our mission.
We enjoy working with corporations who want to donate labor, building materials for home construction, or overstock items for resale!
