Homeownership Changes Lives—and the Data Proves It!

When an individual or family purchases their Richmond Metropolitan Habitat home, the impact goes far beyond the front door. For 40 years, we’ve seen how affordable homeownership builds stability, strength, and opportunity for generations.

At the end of 2025, we surveyed all of our Habitat homeowners about how homeownership has shaped their lives.

Here’s what they shared:

  • 89% say Habitat positively impacted their family’s life
  • 89% report a greater sense of financial security
  • 93% of children raised in Habitat homes graduate high school, higher than Richmond, Henrico, and Chesterfield averages
  • 94% of working homeowners report improved job situations
  • 1 in 3 say their health has improved
  • 3 in 4 say they can't imagine moving or don't plan to move for a long time

Affordable homeownership affects health, environmental and educational outcomes; civic and social engagement; the financial stability of Habitat families; and local economies. Because of supporters like you, families are building brighter futures.

Thank you for being part of this life-changing work.
